The Navy has awarded Schneider Electric a self-funding energy savings performance contract for infrastructure improvements to two California installations.
The contract, which lays out energy and electrical upgrades at the Naval Base Coronado and Naval Base San Clemente Island facilities, is projected to save at least $114 million over a 19-year project term.
Project construction, which is set to be complete by 2018, will involve upgrades to 90 buildings, including renewable and energy conservation elements to help reduce overall costs.
The infrastructure improvements will include power usage upgrades to Naval Base Coronado’s Grace Hopper Data Center, with data consolidation and a 40 percent reduction in server floor area.
“Federal facilities face a number of unique challenges, including aging infrastructure coupled with today’s climate of rising overhead costs, limited budgets and government mandates, making it essential for these facilities to run at maximum efficiency at all times,” said Jeff Sherman, director of Schneider Electric’s Federal Energy and Sustainability Services.
Energy savings performance contracts provide a partnership between the federal government and an energy service company. The federal agency pays for upgrades from the projected costs savings, requiring no new appropriation or capital investment.
