Being as bright as a small sun, it was hard to miss Petzl’s new headlamp as we passed by their booth. Petzl wanted to help the outdoor types up in the way-northern reaches of our planet keep their winter fun going past 2pm, so they came up with a light that can blind a deer at 100 meters.
The output-adjustable Ultra puts out up to 350 lumens using 6 LEDs. Runtime ranges from 2 hours to 34 hours depending on your selection of one of their two lithium-ion rechargeable battery configurations. It’s out in the fall ’08 and will cost around $300. We could easily see something like this getting put to use by aircraft maintainers or search-and-rescue teams.
