Spyderco knives has introduced a new knife designed specifically for Jumpmasters in the 82nd Airborne Division. The Jumpmaster knife features a fully-serrated, 4.5-inch blade and is crafted for heavy cutting.
Jumpmasters are responsible for planeloads of paratroopers, and they need a knife that can cut through heavy nylon straps and parachute static lines in an emergency. Spyderco officials said the unit approached them in 2006 for help. “Their jumpmasters weren’t happy with the knives they were carrying, and they wanted something else,” said Kristi Hunter, government sales representative for Spyderco, at Shot Show ’09. The knife’s blade is made of H1 steel, which is guaranteed never to rust and has excellent edge retention, Hunter said. The Jumpmaster also has a serrated thumb ramp for more controlled cutting. It comes with an injection-molded sheath that locks the knife securely in place.
