The filter uses activated coconut shell carbon to filter out contaminants. Activated carbon is charcoal that either has been treated with a chemical process ,or exposed to high-temperature steam, to create microscopic pores in the charcoal particles, giving it a huge surface area relative to its size.
These pores trap particles small enough to pass into them, while other contaminants are chemically attracted to the surface of the charcoal.
The Frontier Max also has Miraguard antimicrobial treatment within the filter media to prevent any stagnant water left within the filter from developing bacteria, mold or other disease-causing organisms between uses. It is effective against 99.99 percent of bacteria and viruses, and improves water’s taste by removing chlorine and other chemicals. The unit treats up 120 gallons of water, and replacement filters are available.
The filter attaches to the tube of any hydration bladder and comes with a removable bite valve. MSRP is $49.99
