We’ve highlighted a couple great deal sites already (read about them here) but here’s one that’s slightly different.
Geartrade.com “the gear fanatic’s marketplace,” is an online consignment store for gear heads. The site, originally hatched as skitrade.com in 1998 has grown into its current form as a megastore-size online shopping addicts dream.
Up right now are items such as a Garmin Forerunner GPS watch –advertised as like new– 42% off retail for $173.52 or a women’s Patagonia down sweater in “good” condition for $83.14.
And don’t worry, if the thought of buying someone else’s already-worn running shorts skeezes you out, know that you can filter the results by new versus used (as well as by brand and gender).
If you’ve got enough stuff already and need to offload some, hit the sell portion of the site. Unlike some online auction sites, on GearTrade you can set your list price and sit back without the anxiety of waiting for your auction to hit the reserve.
Selling your stuff is as easy as downloading the GearTrade iPhone app (sorry Android users, nothing for you yet) and uploading a couple pictures and a discription. If you’re not app-savvy you can always go the old school route and list items directly through the site. GearTrade will list your item free for a year, and won’t charge you anything if it doesn’t sell. If it does sell, they’ll charge you a flat 12% fee and send you a check for the rest.
So go dig through the pile of old gear in your mom’s garage, unearth the stuff worth selling and watch the money roll in. Then go buy yourself something new and shiney.
