Chalk one up for the barefoot-running crowd: A German man ran a 5k in a 23 minutes, 42 seconds — over snow — on Feb. 13. German newspaper The Local reports 49-year-old Kai Martin’s feet were bleeding afterward, but he did better than the other runners in the snow race, at least one of whom suffered frostbite. The race netted the German the first entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the category of barefoot running on snow.

Martin told the newspaper he goes running barefoot every day, even when the temperature is in the 20s.
