BOISE, Idaho — Army veteran Chad Pfeifer failed to make the cut at the Albertsons Boise Open on Friday.
Pfeifer, the first amputee to play in a Web.com event, was met with cheers from not only the crowd, but several of the pros playing in the tournament after he putted from his last hole.
“It was pretty special,” Pfeifer said. “For those guys to come out and show their appreciation and wish me the best of luck going forward, it was pretty cool.”
Though Pfeifer said he didn’t perform as well as he had wanted to, the experience was an opportunity for him to take what he learned from the pros on the Web.com Tour.
Pfeifer finished 9 over par for the tournament.
Pfeifer was deployed to Iraq in April 2007 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom when his patrol vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device. Despite doctors’ efforts, Pfeifer’s left leg had to be amputated above the knee.
