Seventy-five years ago a surprise attack at Pearl Harbor killed 2,300 American servicemen and prompted the U.S. to join World War II. The sneak attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor on the Hawaiian island of Oahu destroyed the USS Shaw and other American warships, including the USS West Virginia & USS Tennessee. On Dec. 7, 1941, the United States entered World War II. In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the attack, a number of events are planned at memorial sites on Oahu.
