The U.S. Navy is looking to skip shock trials on its newest aircraft carrier design.
This would allow the Gerald R. Ford to deploy in 2019 or 2020.
Skipping the mandatory test requires approval from Congress.
The test involves exploding a charge near the ship to assess battle worthiness.
The Navy would instead test the John F. Kennedy currently under construction.
