NORFOLK, Va. — A former sailor who smuggled heroin aboard an aircraft carrier has been sentenced in Virginia to 18 months in prison.
The government says 22-year-old Donald G. McManus was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Norfolk after pleading guilty last year to heroin distribution aboard the carrier USS George H.W. Bush.
In a news release, the U.S. attorney’s office said the Wallingford, Connecticut, man sold the drug to another sailor who was later found unresponsive in the ship’s berthing area. The OD victim was resuscitated by Navy medical personnel.
Prosecutors say McManus and his wife smuggled the heroin and syringes aboard the carrier in February 2015.
The news release said McManus is no longer a sailor. It didn’t state whether his wife was charged.
