When the White House responded to a sailor petition to restore rating titles, and sided with the Navy, the sailor who started the effort vowed to try again under a Trump Administration. But, officials say, the idea of White House petitions was created by the Obama White House and it’s unsure the effort will cross over after the January inauguration is over.
That said, there is hope among the faithful who are still expressing discontent with the elimination of rating titles, something they say was unnecessary at the time, because none of the promised reforms under the ratings modernization will be instituted for at least a year and maybe more.
Those faithful are holding out hope that a new secretary of the Navy, when named, will see things more from their side and rescind generic titles and return to the job titles sailors would prefer.
