The Network Integration Evaluation provides more of a challenge for simulator technologies than do some other exercises, according to LTC Rudy Martinez, director of the Mission Command Complex at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Because the purpose of NIE is to field-test the most advanced communications systems, “We have to have a simulation model that’s cutting edge to provide the proper message formats for that mission command system that’s under test,” he said.
Using a “simulation federation,” Martinez and his team replicate functions such as providing intelligence information, so that the teams field-testing equipment have as realistic a situation as possible, he said.
