The $3.7 billion that the Air Force is asking for space programs in fiscal 2016 is really a “placeholder” number, according to a report in Defense News.
Citing an anonymous former high-ranking Air Force official, Defense News said the budget covers the necessities of the service’s space systems, but does not account for any evolution in strategy.
The official referred to it as “a placeholder” budget, one designed to hold the service over until a series of studies on the future of US military space architecture are completed.
“I think we’re in a little bit of a wait and see until those studies produce their results,” the official said.
