US-CERT is warning consumers about a phishing scam making rounds online pretending to be from an official federal agency.
The emails claim to have important information on the Affordable Care Act and the recipient’s health insurance coverage. When a person clicks through, the sites ask for personal information, install malware on the user’s device, or both.
US-CERT reminds consumers not to click on links or download attachments in unsolicited emails and maintain up-to-date anti-virus software.
The cybersecurity agency also offered a tip sheet, Avoiding Social Engineering and Phishing Attacks, for more information on this type of scam.
