Defense Secretary Ash Carter this week announced changes to leadership in top positions in the Army and Navy cyber divisions, appointments that come after the Navy’s cyber commander was confirmed as the service’s top intelligence and cyberwarfare officer.
Maj. Gen. Stephen Fogarty, most recently commanding general of the Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon, Georgia has been named as the new chief of staff at U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Maryland, according to a June 8 Defense Department announcement. Fort Gordon is the future home of Army Cyber Command.
The news came just days after a DoD notice announced the appointment of Rear Adm. Michael Gilday to the rank of vice admiral and assignment as commander of the Navy’s 10th Fleet/Fleet Cyber Command at Fort Meade, Maryland. Previously Gilday served as director of operations/J-3 at U.S. Cyber Command.
Gilday replaces Vice Adm. Jan Tighe, who on May 26 was confirmed to replace Adm. Ted Branch as the Navy’s chief intelligence officer and chief of information warfare.
