Foreign terrorists should leave the selfies to the tourists and teenagers. A member of Islamic State took a picture of himself in front of a headquarters building in Syria, and posted it online. Less than 24 hours later, the U.S. located and destroyed the building, according to a report at Defense Tech.
In the article, Air Force Gen. Hawk Carlisle, Commander of Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, describes how airmen with the 361st Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group at Hurlburt Field, Florida, tracked the building down.
“The guys that were working down out of Hurlburt, they’re combing through social media and they see some moron standing at this command. And in some social media, open forum, bragging about the command and control capabilities for Daesh, ISIL. And these guys go: ‘We got an in.’ So they do some work, long story short, about 22 hours later through that very building, three [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] take that entire building out,” Carlisle said.
