Harris Corp. has been selected to provide radars for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) WP-3D Hurricane Hunter aircraft.
AN/APY-11 airborne multi-mode radars, from Harris subsidiary EDO Corp. and partner ELTA Systems, will equip NOAA’s two hurricane observation aircraft. “The technology will expand NOAA’s current hurricane surveillance capabilities to include iceberg monitoring, marine mammal detection, oil spill and debris tracking, as well as oceanic current monitoring,” said a Harris announcement. “The AN/APY-11 multimode radar systems will also enhance NOAA’s ability to support environmental stewardship through the National Marine Sanctuary Program.”
