The fiscal 2016 budget request funds research, development, testing and evaluation for sensors at $377 million, far above the $72 million slated for procurement, according to data compiled by VisualDoD. Sensors have been in the ISR news frequently in recent months as the military seeks better, smaller, farther-reaching electronic eyes and ears.
The gap between RTD&E and procurement is expected to remain wide through at least fiscal 2020, heralding the importance that the Defense Department is putting on advancing the technology.
