UPDATED 3 p.m. Jan. 26.
The person who flew an unmanned aerial vehicle and crashed it on the White House grounds turned himself in, USA Today reported. The Secret Service is continuing to investigate the incident, but a spokesman said it appears to have been the result of “recreational use” of the device.
The person called the Secret Service at about 9:30 a.m. to say he had been flying the device, a quad copter. The individual has been “fully cooperative,” according to the report.
Quadcopters, small UAVs for hobbyists, can cost less than $100.
